How to stop Windows Update Notifications

Note: Windows Professional and Enterprise Editions both have Group Policy Editor. This method can not be used to stop Windows Update notifications if Windows Home Edition is installed. You can use Registry Editor instead. (See the next section to learn more).

After closing Registry Editor, reboot the computer. The Windows update notification should be removed from your computer’s display after reboot. Delete the “SetUpdateNotifiationLevel” value to re-enable Windows update notifications on your computer.

Paste the contents of Registry Editor into your browser Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate You can find it in the navigation menu. Afterward, right-click SetUpdateNotificationLevel, Delete.

This does not stop Windows from updating notifications. However, it doesn’t block Windows from downloading and installing feature or quality updates automatically in the background.
